Ice Cold Smoothie Recipes Cool Heat

Any time is the perfect time for a smoothie. They are wonderful all year long but especially so in the heat of the summer. When temperatures soar, an ice-cold smoothie is essential to keep us chilled down and on a healthy track. Smoothies are better than most cool treats because their sugars and fats can be controlled. Sugary drinks and popsicles are not a healthy idea when the summer sun shines.

In the heat, our bodies need replenishing. A smoothie provides nutrition, vitamins and minerals that the body needs to help get it through a hot day. Remember, your smoothie is what you make of it and every combination of ingredients is simply fabulous! They are an excellent way to get in the daily intake of fruits and vegetables and protein powders can be added for even more nutritional benefits.

A healthy smoothie can be a meal substitute, a boost after a workout, or simply as an icy treat to be enjoyed in the heat of the day. We have included three of our favourite ice-cold smoothie recipes here for you to try and enjoy.

When making smoothies, a blender is needed. Any blender will do but a great blender makes the difference between a good smoothie and one that is simply fantastic. A great blender does not have to be expensive, it should just have to do its job well. There are also smoothie makers on the market but you can use a blender to make one that is just as good. Choose one that offers a wide selection of speeds as some ingredients will need more heavy-duty options to break them down.

Also, you will want to choose a blender with a canister that will make enough for what you desire. You can make enough smoothie for two days and simply freeze what you do not use to enjoy for another treat. Frozen smoothies can then be eaten frozen or allowed to sit out and thaw until your desired temperature.

Smoothies are very versatile and nearly anything can be added to the fruit that you think would taste good and blend well together. If you do not have one of the ingredients in the following recipes, other items may be added. Be creative and love your creation. For an added chill, you may add ice cubes to any of these recipes. Simply put them into the blender with the other ingredients.

Put in as many as you like but keep in mind that more than four will water down the taste of the other ingredients so, you may add some spices or more fruit for taste value. We have not added sugar to these recipes as the fruits themselves provide an adequate amount. We have added honey for a natural and sweet alternative to processed sugar.

Frosty Pineapple and Coconut Smoothie

This smoothie is delicious with its tropical flavours! Enjoy it at home or on the go and take a bit of paradise with you to sip and to savour.

Ingredients Needed

  • 2 cups of frozen canned pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup half and half or creamer (milk may also be used)
  • 1 banana- fresh, peeled and sliced
  • 1 small container of coconut yoghurt, or a flavour of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

Directions

Simply place all ingredients into a blender. Cover, and blend on high until thoroughly mixed together and all chunks are broken down into a smooth drink. Pour into glasses. For an optional treat, you may top your delicious smoothie with shredded, toasted coconut!


Strawberry Apple Smoothie

This tasty smoothie combines beautiful summer fruits and yoghurt to create an explosion of sweet delight! Summer is not complete without these traditional fruits and when they are blended together with other flavours added, they create a whole new vibe in deliciousness.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 apple-fresh, cored and peeled
  • 1 small container of strawberry or strawberry banana yoghurt (plain yoghurt may also be used)
  • 1 banana peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1-3 teaspoons of honey (dependent upon personal taste)

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Cover, and blend until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated into the drink without lumps or chunks.


Peach and Cinnamon Smoothie

This is an exciting concoction with both a healthy dose of spice and the sweet, tangy taste of peaches and cream! What a wonderful guilt free way to start or end the day. This smoothie provides everything needed and desired in one simple drink.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1 ½ cups of frozen peaches
  • 1 small container of vanilla yoghurt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon honey (more may be used to fit your personal preference)

Directions

Combine all ingredients in the blender and blend until all components are smooth and ready to drink.
